About the Position

We’re hiring a Research Fellow who will play an essential role in supporting the work of our growing social media team. The Research Fellow will help us to maintain a constant flow of highly engaging, newsy social media content that informs and inspires our audience. They must have a strong background in conducting fact-checking and original research, be an excellent copywriter, and care deeply about reporting news that impacts working people through social media and video journalism.


Core Responsibilities: 

  • Fact-check social media content including video scripts, captions, graphics, Substack posts and more; 
  • Write engaging social media copy for platforms including Twitter/X and Bluesky, and draft Substack posts to uplift video content;
  • Conduct original research to uncover story leads and interesting news and facts that should be uplifted by More Perfect Union’s social media pages; 
  • Identifying emerging news and trending topics from both traditional news sources as well as social media; 
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet expected deadlines
  • Maintain high standard of work in a nimble, fast paced environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Professional experience fact-checking and conducting research, preferably as part of a newsroom;
  • Passion for, and substantial knowledge of, national politics and economic justice issues;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proficiency in social media platforms including Twitter/X with a strong understanding of current trends;
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a social media team;
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of following directions and meeting tight deadlines;
  • Available full-time hours and able to excel in a remote/work-from-home environment.
