About the Position

We’re hiring a Vertical Video Editor Fellow who will edit short videos specifically for TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts. The ideal candidates will be an exceptional video editor who is comfortable executing on fast timelines and has a track record of making highly engaging, news-centric videos for social media. The Vertical Video Editor Fellow must be immersed in and excited about the process of telling stories through video, with the technical and narrative skills to hook viewers and keep people watching to the end. The position requires a high level of self-sufficiency, strong collaboration and communication skills, and a desire to make an impact on the media landscape.

Core Responsibilities: 

• Edit original vertical videos for our social media channels, including on-the-ground footage and interviews, direct-to-camera explainers, and cutdowns of longer videos;
• Take ownership of end-to-end video editing—including selecting b-roll, news headlines, images, music and other media to support storytelling;
• Edit videos on a quick timeline, ensuring a fast turnaround without compromising quality, and follow established protocols for seeking input and approvals from producers;
• Contribute to the creative direction of videos, providing innovative ideas that enhance the impact of our content;
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet expected deadlines
• Maintain high standard of work in a nimble, fast paced environment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

• Proficiency with Adobe Premiere, After Effects experience a plus;
• Passion for, and substantial knowledge of, national politics, economic justice, and labor issues;
• Strong understanding of social media platforms including YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, as well as editing best practices for social media;
• Demonstrated experience editing videos for social media, preferably as part of a newsroom; 
• Exceptional interpersonal communication skills; 
• Strong time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects independently;
• Producing, scripting, or research experience a plus;
• Available full-time hours and ability to excel in a remote/work-from-home environment;
